Online Notepad Features

Auto-save to browser — no account needed

Every keystroke is automatically saved to your browser's localStorage. Your notes persist between visits, browser restarts and page refreshes. There is no Save button because saving is continuous and instant. No account, login or internet connection is needed for saving. The notepad works completely offline once the page has loaded.

Multiple named notes

Click the + button in the tab bar to create additional notes, each with its own title and content. Switch between notes using the tabs. Each note is saved independently. Most free online notepads only have a single note — this tool lets you maintain separate notes for different projects, subjects or purposes simultaneously.

Markdown preview

Click the Preview button to toggle rendered Markdown. Write in standard Markdown syntax and see a beautifully formatted preview with headings, bold, italic, code blocks, lists, blockquotes, links and horizontal rules. The raw Markdown text is always preserved in the editor — toggle back to edit at any time.

Full-screen distraction-free focus mode

Click Focus mode or press F11 to enter distraction-free writing mode. The editor expands to fill the entire screen with only the text area visible. All navigation, toolbars, ads and page elements are hidden. This mode is ideal for writing without distractions. Press Escape to return to normal view.

Export and print

Export the current note as a .txt file for plain text, or as a .md file to preserve Markdown formatting for use in any Markdown editor. Use the Print option to open the browser print dialog and save as PDF. The printed version shows only the note content with clean formatting.

Word, character and reading time count

Live word count, character count, line count and estimated reading time update as you type. These are displayed in the status bar at the bottom and in the toolbar. Useful for writing to a specific length — blog posts, essays, social media content or meeting notes.

Use cases

What Can I Use an Online Notepad For?

Quick notes and scratchpad

Use the instant notepad as a quick scratchpad for temporary text — clipboard storage, calculations, URLs, phone numbers or anything you need to jot down quickly. No setup, no typing a filename, just open the page and start writing. Notes persist in your browser unless you clear them.

Browser notepad for writing and drafting

Write blog posts, articles, essays or emails in the browser notepad before pasting into your publishing platform. The distraction-free focus mode eliminates all browser elements so you can write without interruptions. Export as .txt or .md when done.

Markdown notepad for developers and writers

Use the Markdown preview mode to write formatted content — README files, documentation, blog posts or meeting notes — and preview the rendered output instantly. Export as .md for direct use in GitHub, Notion or any Markdown-capable platform.

Private temporary notepad

Use the notepad as a private temporary notes tool. Unlike cloud note-taking apps, nothing leaves your device. Your notes are stored in your browser's localStorage and are never seen by any server. For truly temporary notes, use your browser's private/incognito window and the notes will be cleared when the window closes.

Meeting and lecture notes

Take quick notes during meetings or lectures using the online notepad. Create a separate named tab for each meeting. Export as .txt or .md after the meeting, or print directly from the browser. The live word count helps estimate note length at a glance.
