How the wide text generator (vaporwave) works
This maps each character to its "full-width" Unicode form, the wide versions originally designed to sit evenly alongside Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters. The Latin letters and digits sit in the Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms block at a fixed offset from the normal ASCII characters (for instance the letter A at U+0041 maps to Ａ at U+FF21, exactly 0xFEE0 higher), so the conversion is a simple, reliable shift. The extra built-in width gives the airy, retro "vaporwave" spacing, as pasteable plain text.
Full-width covers letters, digits, common punctuation and the space, so most text converts. The look is strongly associated with vaporwave and 80s-retro aesthetics. It takes up noticeably more room, so it suits short phrases better than long paragraphs.

How do I make aesthetic / vaporwave text?

Why does wide text have big gaps?
The characters are "full-width" forms sized to match CJK characters, so each one occupies a wider cell than normal Latin letters. That built-in width is what creates the spacing. You're not adding spaces between letters.
Is this the same as adding spaces between letters?
No. Adding spaces (l i k e t h i s) inserts extra space characters that a reader or search can strip out, changing the text. Full-width conversion swaps each letter for a single wider character, so the spacing is built into the glyph itself rather than added between letters.
Why does the space between words get wider too?
The regular space also has a full-width counterpart (the ideographic space, U+3000), so word gaps expand in proportion with the letters, keeping the spaced-out look consistent across the whole phrase.
Is this an actual font?
No. Nothing is installed. The tool swaps each letter for a look-alike Unicode character (mostly from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block), so the styled text is really just text, which is exactly why it survives being pasted into places that don't allow font changes.
