Photography Calculators
Master the technical side of photography, work out depth of field and hyperfocal distance, compare lenses and sensors, plan exposure and time-lapses, and size your prints. Standard optics formulas with real sensor data, running entirely in your browser.
- Depth of Field Calculator Enter your sensor, focal length, aperture and subject distance to get the depth of field, the zone that will look sharp.
- Field of View Calculator Enter your sensor and focal length to get the angle of view, and how much of a scene fits in the frame at a given distance.
- Crop Factor & Equivalent Focal Length Calculator Pick a sensor and enter a lens to get its crop factor and the full-frame-equivalent focal length and aperture.
- Exposure Value (EV) Calculator Enter an aperture, shutter speed and ISO to get the exposure value, and a table of equivalent settings that expose the same.
- Hyperfocal Distance Calculator Enter your sensor, focal length and aperture to get the hyperfocal distance, the focus point that maximises sharpness to infinity.
- Time-Lapse Calculator Enter your shooting time, interval and playback frame rate to get the final clip length, number of photos and storage needed.
- Print Size & Resolution Calculator Enter your image's pixel dimensions and target DPI to get the maximum print size, megapixels and a quality rating.
- Sunny 16 Exposure Calculator Enter your ISO and aperture to get the right shutter speed for every light condition, using the Sunny 16 rule.
- Star Trail (500 Rule) Calculator Pick your sensor and focal length to get the longest shutter time that keeps stars as sharp points, not streaks.
- Flash Guide Number Calculator Enter a flash guide number and either the distance or aperture to get the correct exposure setting, adjusted for ISO.
- ND Filter Calculator Pick your metered shutter speed and the ND filter strength to get the new long-exposure shutter time.
- Diffraction Limit Calculator Choose your sensor and resolution to find the aperture where diffraction begins to limit sharpness.
Frequently asked questions
Are these photography calculators accurate?
Yes. They use standard optics formulas (hyperfocal distance, depth of field, angle of view, exposure value) and verified sensor dimensions and circle-of-confusion values. Sources are cited on each tool page.
What sensor sizes are supported?
Full frame, APS-C (Canon and Nikon/Sony), APS-H, Micro Four Thirds, 1-inch, medium format and smartphone sensors, each with the correct dimensions, crop factor and circle of confusion.
Do these change my exposure for crop factor?
No, crop factor affects field of view and depth of field, not exposure. An f/2.8 lens exposes as f/2.8 on any sensor. The "equivalent aperture" is only for comparing depth of field between formats.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Every tool runs entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, and they work offline.
