Compressing, converting and resizing images normally means uploading them — exactly what you don't want for a screenshot of unreleased work, a document photo or a private picture. These tools run the image codecs (including HEIC/HEIF and WebP) as WebAssembly inside your browser, so your photo is processed on your own device and never uploaded. The decoder downloads once on first use and then works offline.

How can image tools work without uploading the image?

Browsers ship full image codecs: the canvas API decodes, resamples and re-encodes JPEG, PNG and WebP natively on your device. "Upload to compress" services exist because ad-funded sites want your traffic, not because servers are required.

Is there a file size limit?

Only your device's memory — there's no artificial cap, no queue and no watermark. Typical phone photos (3–15 MB) process instantly.

Do these tools keep my photo's metadata?
