Rate each point's importance 1–5; the weighted totals give a verdict. It's a nudge, not a ruling. Saved in this browser.
How the pros and cons list works
A plain pros and cons list has a flaw: it treats a trivial point the same as a decisive one, so whichever column is longer "wins" even if it's full of minor items. This version fixes that by letting you weight each point from 1 (minor) to 5 (major). It sums the weights on each side and calls a verdict — pros win, cons win, or too close to call — with the margin. The result is a genuine nudge rather than a misleading tally.
Use the verdict as a prompt, not a command: often the most valuable moment is realising you're disappointed by the answer, which tells you what you actually wanted. And be honest with the weights — inflating your preferred side's scores just launders a decision you'd already made. Everything stays on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Why weight a pros and cons list?
Because a raw count is misleading — five trivial pros shouldn't outweigh two decisive cons. Weighting each point 1–5 by importance and summing the weights gives a verdict that reflects what actually matters, not just which list is longer.
How is the verdict decided?
It adds up the weights on each side. The heavier side wins; if they're equal it's "too close to call". The margin shows how decisive it is.
Should I always follow the verdict?
No — treat it as a nudge. Its best use is often emotional: if the result disappoints you, you've learned which way you were really leaning. Just don't game the weights to force a predetermined answer.
Can I save or share it?
It's auto-saved in your browser, and you can export it as JSON to back up or share.
Is my decision private?
Completely — nothing is uploaded; the list lives only in your browser.
