How the garden watering calculator works
Applying a depth of water over an area is a volume: area × depth. The tool uses the standard conversions — 1 inch of water over 1 ft² is about 0.623 US gallons, and metrically 1 mm over 1 m² is exactly 1 litre. Enter the bed size and target depth and it gives the total to apply.

How often should I water the garden?
Deeply once or twice a week is usually better than a little every day — it encourages deep roots. Sandy soils drain faster and need more frequent watering; clay holds water longer. Adjust for weather.
What time of day is best to water?
Early morning is best: less evaporation, and foliage dries quickly, reducing disease. Evening watering is second-best; midday loses the most to evaporation.
How do I measure how much rain fell?
