How the electricity cost calculator works

Daily energy (kWh) = watts ÷ 1000 × hours per day. Daily cost = daily kWh × price per kWh. Monthly and yearly costs scale by 30 and 365. Electricity is billed in kilowatt-hours — one kWh is 1000 watts running for one hour.

Example: A 1500 W heater, 5 h/day, at 0.20 per kWh → 7.5 kWh/day × 0.20 = 1.50/day ≈ 45/month ≈ 547/year.

Use the nameplate wattage (on the label or in the manual) for resistive devices like heaters and kettles; motor- and compressor-driven appliances (fridges, ACs) cycle on and off, so estimate their average on-time rather than assuming they run continuously. Enter the rate in whatever currency your bill uses — the maths is the same, and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the cost of running an appliance?

Multiply its power in kilowatts (watts ÷ 1000) by the hours you use it and by your price per kWh. The calculator does this and projects the daily figure out to monthly and yearly costs.

Where do I find an appliance's wattage?

On the rating label (often on the back or base) or in the manual, usually shown in watts (W). If only amps and volts are given, watts = volts × amps.

Why is my fridge or AC cost lower than the calculation suggests?

Because they don't run constantly — the compressor cycles on and off. Estimate the fraction of the day it's actually running (or use its annual kWh label) rather than a full 24 hours.

What currency does it use?

Whatever you enter for the price per kWh — the arithmetic is currency-agnostic. Results appear in the same units as the rate you type.

Is this electricity cost calculator accurate and private?
