How the crop image works
Cropping keeps a rectangular region of an image and discards the rest. Drag the crop box, or type an exact X, Y, width and height in pixels, and optionally lock it to a common aspect ratio — 1:1 for avatars, 16:9 for video thumbnails, 4:5 for portrait posts. The tool redraws just that region onto a new canvas at the source resolution and exports it as a PNG, so the pixels you keep are not rescaled or re-compressed.
Cropping is lossless for the pixels you keep — unlike resizing, it doesn't rescale anything, so text and fine detail stay sharp. Aspect presets matter when a platform expects a shape: 1:1 for most profile pictures, 16:9 for YouTube and most video thumbnails, 4:5 for Instagram portrait. Because it all runs on your device, you can crop screenshots of private documents without them ever touching a server.

How do I crop an image to an exact size?
Type the width and height (and the X, Y position) in pixels into the numeric fields, or drag the crop box and read the size back. The download is that exact pixel region at full resolution.
Can I crop to a square or 16:9?
Yes — pick an aspect-ratio preset (1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16 and more) and the crop box locks to that shape; resize it and the ratio is maintained. Choose "Free" for an unconstrained crop.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
No. Cropping removes pixels outside the box but does not rescale the ones inside, and the export is a lossless PNG — so the kept region is pixel-for-pixel identical to the original.
What is the difference between cropping and resizing?
Cropping cuts out a region and keeps its pixels at full size; resizing rescales the whole image to new dimensions. To make a file smaller for an upload form, use the resize or resize-to-KB tools instead.
Is my image uploaded to crop it?
No — the crop is drawn with the browser's Canvas API on your device. Nothing is transmitted, so even sensitive screenshots stay private and it works offline.
